What is happening in Middle School Spanish B 2016-2017
Here I will keep you posted as to what we are doing in class and what projects we are working on. I will not be able to tell you exact due dates for your students due to block scheduling so I encourage you to go online to the Infinite Campus link and check for actual due dates as they pertain to your child.

Bienvenidos a mi clase. Students have had a busy first week in Spanish. We have already started reading our first book and the first round of vocabulary goes home this weekend. Students took a pre-test today which will show up in the online grade book but will not be included in the grade calculations. They will take the same test in April next year to see how far they progressed in their knowledge of Spanish.
Please be aware that your child will have homework every night and a little extra over the weekend. They will be doing practice pages from workbooks that are designed to reinforce the subject matter and grammar concepts we cover in class. They should be finishing their homework for me on any given night in about 15-20 minutes which includes time for them to spend reviewing their vocabulary lists. They will have a longer reading assignment over the weekend which will take them a little more time to read and answer the questions. I use these pages to begin to explore Spain and it's rich and varied history as the cultural focus for this year is on Spain. Regular practice and review is crucial in foreign language learning so it is important that they make time every night for this. Feel free to vary the routine as well. Explore Spanish language websites, play online games at PBS kids, listen to some Spanish music, read a children's book, watch Univision to hear the language and many different accents. These are just a few things your child can do to immerse himself or herself into successful language learning. I also have links to websites I recommend here on my website. Feel free to explore those as well!
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have! Email is always best as I do not usually answer my phone during class time because I am teaching and students get off track very easily!
If your child is struggling with Spanish and would like some extra help we will have opportunities for students to work with an after school tutor to help them get a stronger understanding. This year is very important as this is the foundation for all the new verb endings they will tackle next year! I have included the contact information below:
Spanish Tutoring and after school help
Need extra help with your Spanish assignments and studying?
You can receive one-on-one, after school help from experienced Spanish III, IV, V or AP students.
